Getting Ready to Date Again

October 23, 2015

I am getting ready to date again. I took a break earlier this year after my father died because I just wasn’t in the mood. And then I got really focused on my upcoming book. Having limited oomph, I have to carefully pick and choose what I give my energy to. Now that my book is in the publishing phase, and I’ve delegated a lot of the tasks to other people, I feel like it might be time to start dating once more, buuutttt…I see some roadblocks ahead.

This is the first time I’ve found myself making excuses for not getting on it. Here are my best ones:

  1. I’m about to get a series of iron infusions, so I want to get those done first in order to have more energy to date.

  2. I’m going on vacation for 10 days right after my last infusion, so I might as well wait until I get back.

  3. I get back from holiday at the beginning of December, and everyone’s going to be busy until after Christmas, so I better wait until January.

  4. Then in January, my book release will be coming up (February 14), so I’ll need all my energy for that.

If I were to listen to my excuses, I’d be waiting until March 2016 to get back on the dating wagon! I’m going to be totally straight with myself (and you), the only legit reason to postpone dating are the iron infusions and I don’t really need to wait until all three are done, one is enough to give me a boost. The rest are excuses. I mean, who’s to say I don’t meet a great guy in December?!

Ok, excuses blasted!

How am I going to go about this? Most of my efforts will happen online, since I like to preserve my energy for actual dates. In the past many online dating sites, with a brief foray to Craigslist (not the best meeting place – unless you’re charging for your services, if you know what I mean). I’ve met men through all of those sites, but I want to try something new this time. Here’s my plan:

  1. Try an online dating site I haven't used before

  2. Go to a singles event. Every month there are many singles events in my city, such as wine tastings or pizza bakings. I have a few friends who’d like to go as well, so we’ll get a group together and check it out.

In order to keep myself honest, I’m committing to you, dear reader, to create my online dating profile before next Friday, when I next blog about dating again and give you an update on my adventures in dating.
