Revamping my Dating Strategy

It’s Friday which means it’s time to discuss my love life. It seems my dating plans and strategies have stalled. This has been partly due to the craziness of the Christmas season and partly due to me feeling somewhat unenthusiastic about the online dating process.

I’d still very much like to meet that special someone but I need to change my strategy in order to get different results. My current dating approach hasn’t worked as well as I had

hoped. I admit, I have been very passive and inconsistent with regard to my efforts to meet men online. So far all I’ve done is put my profile on an online dating site and waited for men to contact me. As a result, many of the men who have messaged me are not a good fit.

Another issue I've been struggling with is that there is a good chance my clients might bump into me in the virtual dating world. This is something I am uncomfortable with and would like to avoid. As a professional counsellor, I need to maintain some degree of distance. I realize that I’m blogging about my love life and I’ve written a very personal book, however, I feel that it still possible to strike the right balance when it comes to personal disclosure and professionalism and I would like to focus on that a little more.

As with any goal, it’s important to look at what’s working and what isn’t working, and then make the changes that need to happen in order for you to achieve your goal. So without further ado, I present to you my new dating strategy:

1. Switch my online dating profile to private so that I cannot be found in a search. The only way someone can see my profile will be if I contact them first.

2. Take a little more time to browse the profiles on the dating site and message the men who really catch my eye. Taking a more active role in meeting men will only benefit me.

3. Grab a few friends and go to some singles events after the holidays. Okay, maybe just one to start with. I’d like to see what sort of possibilities exist for meeting men in a more organic way, and while these mixers are a little inorganic, they still feel more natural than the online dating world.

I will start implementing this strategy as soon as I hit the "publish" on this post. After all, there's no time like the present! And if this strategy doesn’t work I have lots of other ideas up my sleeve.

As always, I will keep you posted on my progress. Thank you for keeping me accountable!
